Happy new tier, happy new year!

Happy new year and TIER to you, all! It’s been such an eventful four weeks, hasn’t it? The ups and downs of not knowing whether we were going to be able to get together with loved ones over christmas, the change from five days to one day to celebrate the festive period together and then the launch of tier 5 as 2021 began… And then there was Brexit - it’s enough to fill three months worth of storylines on a soap opera! Who would have thought that it’s taken nearly five years for Brexit to be “done”? After such uproar after the votes came in, to find it now, I feel, almost brushed under the carpet now that it’s here and finalised. However, here we are, all in it together throughout this pandemic, and working together for the end of goal of being vaccinated and having our free country feeling safe again.

I’ve toyed with what focus to write about it my blog this month… Do I:

  • Try and give sound advice on how to survive a third lockdown, from my perspective as a mum of 3 young children plus a self employed business owner?

  • Focus on meaningful, and motivational, quotes to in the hope that it inspires you to make it through the lockdown?

  • Completely ignore the current pandemic and talk about something new beginnings, and link it in to the new year?

I’ll be honest, I’ve come to the conclusion that none of these are even worth considering! I think we’re all dealing with the lockdown in our own way, having all lived through them previously, so hearing how we are (or aren’t) coping isn’t going to help anyone! Social media is so full of quotes - some motivational and some more about ditching Dry January - that I think we’re almost becoming overwhelmed with advice on how to get through a day that sometimes, I find, it’s easier to ignore these pieces of “helpful” advice and take the day in my own way. Let’s face it - ignoring the pandemic would just be naive, wouldn’t it? So… what to talk about?

Fresh starts are so damn important, and I’ve learnt that it doesn’t take a calendar date such as 1 January 2021, to give myself permission to create a new habit, learn something new or perhaps, choose to move on from a time and/or event I’ve found difficult in life. I’ve been thrilled to welcome Sophia, ambassador of Arbonne and founder of the Vegan Coach, into our VIP #BBBY community to talk about how a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean having to “diet” and I’m really looking forward to taking part in her seven day event, starting next week (18 January 2021!). There are still a couple of FREE goody bags if you’d like to take part in the event, by the way, just click here to be taken to the signup page. Throughout my fairly short life, I’ve been lucky enough to learn about the importance loving your body from the inside out - more of which I’ll share with you, next week, and the ethos of being comfortable “wearing” the body you have is something I am so passionate about.

As you all know I’m also a massive believer in the power of “giving”. It’s not about the “£” sign but the giving of time, moments and letting individuals know that you’re thinking of them. Selfishly, perhaps, it was so lovely to be able to send out a little christmas treat to our #BBBY ladies from 2020 and then receive phone calls and messages, from a few, who fancied a catchup. It was lovely to hear from them all. With the third lockdown in full swing, it has got me thinking about what more we can do to help others and pull together to create moments of happiness, and perhaps memories to look back on in the future - it’s those feel good moments. Let’s be honest - I get a kick out of it, too!

Next month see’s the arrival of Valentine’s Day, my daughter’s tenth birthday (double figures!) and my own birthday, too. I find comfort in knowing, for sure, that these events will be spent in lockdown - it means that we can plan something for us. If I’m honest, James and I have never done Valentine’s Day… We’ve never sent cards in our twelve years together! It’s only since a dear friend’s funeral, three years ago, that we learnt the importance of showing love to one another, from time to time, and James has given me and our three daughters a single rose each which I cherish the sentiment of. To me, Valentine’s Day is very much a commercial venture and, as we are a business, I am enjoying putting the final touches to promotions for both this event, and Mother’s Day in March, more of which I’ll share with you another time.

For now, please stay safe. Stay local to your home - embrace the environment around you and explore new paths that you’ve always said you’ll go down one day but never had the time to do… Now, more than ever, is this time. Embrace it.

Love & Friendship,
Kirsty
