How does Boudoir Photography boost confidence?
It’s now been over a year since Be Bold Be You moved to it’s forever home, Studio1825 in Nether Heage, Belper. I cannot begin to tell you how much I have loved the last year with some clients even booking return shoots for this autumn. The third lockdown saw the arrival of our Be Bold Be You Facebook group, Be Bold Be You Be Here, and it has fast become an extension of our family, having lovingly been nicknamed “the tribe”, by myself… It’s the mixture of social backgrounds, personal stories/journeys and general personalities that genuine warm the cockles! What blows me away most, however is that from all these different walks of life there seems to be similar obstacles that all women have met, are going through or have endured… For example, the challenges of juggling motherhood, work, significant others, and there is a clear thing in common: all of these titles and roles in life leave us, as women, with life very little time to appreciate ourselves. And let’s not forget those women who, for whatever reason - choice or otherwise - do not have children. The expectations put upon childless adults certainly is heightened, but the point I want to make is that if you’re a person who does not have children, it doesn’t automatically open a lot of free time.
So, why are many women are choosing to embrace
a slice of “Bold” for their own photo shoot?
The joy of BeBoldBeYou™ is that we’re not just “another photoshoot” or, indeed, local photography studio… We hope our galleries of real women, prove this alone! We’re also a movement which caught the BBC’s attention and, subsequently, successfully achieved in rattling social media giant Facebook’s cage to the point that they agreed their view on portraiture of women needs to be reviewed. It’s is beginning to create waves within the UK photographic portrait industry, as we shout our views, from the rooftop, on how the commercial portrait industry needs to seriously up it’s game in terms of customer service and the understanding of real women’s bodies. However, for most, Be Bold Be You is all about time for you, that you are, most probably, well overdue. The BBBY Boudoir Experience is not for the size zero that everyone seems to create in their head, and love to hate as they compare themselves to the inadequate dreams that they think they should be in size, temperament and appearance. It is for those women who need a push to embrace their curves, quirks and self induced qualms… no matter what their story, personality, shape and/or style.
This is YOUR session.
Stop comparing yourself to others.
The blunt reality is that putting yourself toward the bottom of the list leads to low esteem, low confidence and low self worth. Only last week, I told you about the report, commissioned by Facebook, which led to the social media giant hiding its alarming findings because what they’d proven was that their platforms were having a negative impact on the mental health of girls & women. The role of Be Bold Be You is to give you the opportunity to take some time for you, and not only to take the time but to remind you to embrace your own personality and your own story. The Be Bold Be You movement also encourages you to accept your own body including shape, scars, stretchmarks and the stories that go with them. This acceptance is integral to confidence. And trust me, from what I’ve learnt in my unique role in #BBBY is that 99% of women have curves, lines, wobbly bits, stretched skin and scars (from acne through to stretchmarks through to surgery) in millions of places.
