3 top tips for beachwear this summer

OK, so the summer is so close to us we can almost feel those warm rays on our cheeks, the warm breeze in our hair and the salt in the sea based air. I love this time of year at it embraces so many of our senses. For those who have seen me before, you all know I’m a huge fan of the scandi vibe known as “hygge” which is all about emphasising basic home comforts such as blankets, warmth & home made food. This really can work in the summer, too! I’m anyone for a chill in the garden in an oversized hoodie whilst the twilight kicks in. BBQ’s are a huge social event in our house and we eat outside regularly. It’s a happy time for me when we’re all outside in the sunshine and feeling its rays however I’m also aware how many - including me - can feel self conscious in these sunnier based months. It’s not always easy to stay cool and feel confident in the outfits we choose to wear.

So, with this in mind, whether holiday-ing in Derbados, going rustic in the countryside, embracing the sea air or finally getting on that plane following the last two years, here are my top tips to staying true to who you are, living in the moment and not feeling self conscious this summer.

Ignore the silhouette based figures you see selling the bikini’s in the shops and on social media. Some bodies just aren’t made to suit that style of clothing! Feeling good in something often starts with the reflection in the mirror and this is only going to feel good if you know how to dress your own body shape. Remember to flatter your figure and not a tiktok trend

When it comes to swimwear
DO NOT buy a size up because you think it’ll give you more coverage! Swimsuits can expand when wet and there is nothing worse than a sagging suit or, even worse, gaps in the fabric where you just don’t want them! If you feel more coverage would aid your confidence then buy a style that provides this, rather than going up a size

Take some time, for you and go and try on swimwear in a shop. Find different styles - one piece, two piece… high or low waist… patterned VS plain. I guarantee you’ll be surprised at what does and does not suit your body. A few ask why I insist they do this and my reply is simple: By taking time for you, your self esteem will thank you and your self confidence will be cared for by you.
