Fashions for Summer 2022
The summer is knocking on all of our doors! As a mum of three girls I’m on countdown for the school summer holidays as I transfer over from my days being full of Be Bold Be You to them being crammed full of activities to try and keep the girls busy and sane over the six week school holidays! We’re so lucky in Derbyshire as we have so much to do on our door step and despite many of us having to tighten the purse strings due to the rising cost in living, I think it’s really important that - whether it be a treat for surviving the six week hols or “just because” - we all remember to treat ourselves this summer.
The BBBY tribe are loving baggy pants, this summer! Whether it’s an actual big knicker or a baggier trouser or short, they’re great for those who are nervous of stretch marks or having their high legs on show whilst still staying comfortable over the sunnier months. Again, playing with texture, mixing together a denim or linen with a fabric overlaid with a mesh style finish just looks stunning! Equally, the 1950s style skirts are coming back and whether it’s the pencil finish or - like me - you prefer a “puffier” skirt such as an A line finish, for example, it means that many different shapes & sizes are catered for.
Something I’m really enjoying seeing in the UK at the moment is the realisation that certain types of lingerie can double up as evening wear - or even daywear! I’ve really enjoyed watching the reels made by Strut Women (based in Belper) who really show how all sorts of shapes & sizes can suit so many different styles of fashion & colour. They’re really worth a follow on Instagram if you don’t already.
Bodysuits are seriously “in” at the mo! Even famous singer Rihanna was embracing them in the later stage of her pregnancy (although we did that shot way before her.. Just saying!) If you’re not comfortable with leaving your bodysuit “on show” then have a think about fabrics - satin styles and mesh are really popular at the mo and those who have been to the studio before will know how much I love using fabrics to build texture. Add into the mix, on a summers evening, an oversized jumper falling off the shoulder or even just a baggy cardigan and you will be on trend and staying warm as the evenings start to cool down, again.
Whatever you choose to wear this summer make sure it’s something you feel comfortable in… Comfortable doesn’t just mean functional but also something that allows you to feel confident in what you wear and who you want to be. To quote Oscar Wilde, “Be Bold Be You.. Everyone else is already taken”
