Boudoir outfit advice

What do you dare to wear for your shoot? I guess it depends on your style, persona and what you want your images to represent… Here are some top tip outfit advice for your shoot…

  • VARIETY: there is only so much we can do with three black and/or white sets of underwear. Have a think about versatility when choosing your key items. Flashes of colour in either underwear, jewellery or footwear makes a much more interesting portfolio of imagery.

  • Bras:  Well, this may seem an obvious one but bear with us! Firstly, make sure they fit well. Firstly, stand in front of a mirror and reach up – check that the underwire of the bra is flat against your ribcage. Next, lie down and look down – make sure that your boob fills the cup. If there is only a little gap then don’t worry as our editing guru’s can lift the skin to make sure there isn’t an empty area.
Little extra note on this one: If you are wanting to capture your body post surgery, after a mastectomy, for example, don’t worry about a well fitting bra. Have one that you feel comfortable in, both physically and mentally, as we have loads of tricks and ideas with wraps and fabrics that we can play with in the studio

  • “Normal” clothingis a key prop! Items such as shoulder tees, cardigans, tanktops, a fitted button-up shirt, or a high slit skirt/dress. Many of these items can be paired with cute undergarments to make a very sexy (but less skimpy) outfit, if you’re worried about feeling self conscious.

  • CORSETS & BASQUES These are perfect for creating a beautiful curved shape to your sillouhette, no matter what your body shape. We suggest a slightly longer corset that sits over your pant line, so there are no “muffin tops” or, if you prefer underbust corsets, we suggest a simple and wellfitted bra to compliment the look. Basques that use different types of fabric, such as lace, netted panels and ribbons can add subtle texture and lead the eye in your imagery… Most come with suspenders and these can look fabulous with stockings

  • Shoes are a must - High heels, whether as a stiletto or boot, are a nice way to extend the length of your legs but if you don’t wear heels don’t do it in your shoot. If you live in trainers, bring the trainers with you. It’s about celebrating who you are and not turning you into something else. Equally, if you have a pair of heels that are too high to walk in – bring them!! The shape and height can look stunning and we want you to pose with them, not do a night on the town in them!

  • WHAT KIND OF KNICKERS? Matching sets can be nice but certainly aren’t essential. When looking at design, remember that high-waisted designs smooth the tummy and add a vintage touch, whilst brazilians and thongs accentuate your bum. When deciding on your pants think about what’s going to help you ooze confidence in front of the camera… If you’re tummy shy (like me!) then do high waisted every time!

  •  ACCESSORIES are key to making an “outfit”, especially if you’re wanting to go bare. Think earls, long necklaces, gaudy costume jewelry, hats, fishnets or sheer black hose, and most importantly-- shoes!!

  • Do you have to wear clothes? Absolutely not! Some of the most stunning and iconic images are good lighting and skin. You wear the skin, and we’ll provide the lighting.
