What is Boudoir?

What is Boudoir?

Did you know…? There’s a French verb, “bouder”, that the word Boudoir derives from, meaning “sulky”?! It can also mean “woman’s room” but there is also what you’re about to embrace, through the art of photography.

First of all, let us ask you a question: When you close your eyes, what does your boudoir look like? We are not on about the shoot or even the final imagery - that’s why we have a style consultation with you later - but your imaginary boudoir room is intriguing… Is it dark and “sulky” as the french verb would have you believe or is it a space of opportunity and freedom? What does this look like… Is it private softly spoken area full of your own wishes and thoughts or is it a temple of celebration, warmth and flamboyance? It’s a hard question to answer, isn’t it?

As professionals of the photographic industry, “Boudoir” is so much more than a “place”. It’s a statement of who you are, along with every battle scar and/or trophy you have achieved and been given to “wear”. In short, Boudoir is “you”.

To quote an article I wrote: “You have come to us at a moment in time. Some call it their “reason why” moment - to commemorate a milestone, whether it be physical, mental or of an age. Embrace it. I guarantee that you will leave feeling empowered and with a new sense of self confidence which you are, absolutely, entitled to. I have worked with women for over ten years, seen hundreds come through studio doors with their head down and leave with a bouncy and swishy style spring in their step.” It is now your turn to feel the same.

Enjoy this luxury experience. Humans come in all shapes and sizes, from all walks of life, in love and in sadness; there is no “one size” in personality, body shape, weight or mind (just take a look at our gallery to see!). Embrace the styling advice, seize the moment and allow us to create a celebration of you. Welcome to Boudoir.
