Ten top tips for your Boudoir Experience

We’re always asked what can make a perfect boudoir shoot… There’s no definitive answer to this question however there are lots of top tips depending on your personality and own plans for your photoshoot. Have a read below and pick the ones that suit you!

  1. Normal” clothing is a key prop! Items such as shoulder tees, cardigans, tanktops, a fitted button-up shirt, or a high slit skirt/dress. Many of these items can be paired with cute undergarments to make a very sexy (but less skimpy) outfit, if you’re worried about feeling self conscious.

  2. Corsets & Basques are perfect for creating a beautiful curved shape to your sillouhette, no matter what your body shape. We suggest a slightly longer corset that sits over your pant line, so there are no “muffin tops” or, if you prefer underbust corsets, we suggest a simple and wellfitted bra to compliment the look. Basques that use different types of fabric, such as lace, netted panels and ribbons can add subtle texture and lead the eye in your imagery… Most come with suspenders and these can look fabulous with stockings

  3. DON’T feel like you have to drop a ton of money on new items for your shoot. Although it can be nice to have one really elaborate piece of lingerie, we can create stunning images with the items you already have in your closet

  4. Are you tummy conscious? Consider high waisted undies, corset belt, or bodysuit options if tummy is area of concern. Other key items include an off the shoulder cardigan, button down shirt or lace robe to make you feel at ease. Other key items of costume include oversized shirts, leather jackets, tailored coats and suit jackets.

  5. Remember to cut out all tags from your clothing options including the launder instructions inside the garment (little white tags w/ care instructions).

  6. DON’T wear anything that is too small and digs into your skin or creates the dreaded “muffin top.” We don’t care what the number says on the tag (which you just cut out, remember!) we just want you to feel good in what you wear… We promise your confidence will push any anxieties about our size out of the way if your outfit fits you “right”

  7. Do you love stockings? Choose stockings with a wide band at the top so you have a smooth line going from your thighs to your toes

  8. Wear jewellery. It adds texture and an elegance to your imagery. Earrings, necklaces, chokers and pearls are always a fabulous addition to any image.

  9.  Accessories are key to making an “outfit”, especially if you’re wanting to go bare. Think earrings, long necklaces, gaudy costume jewelry, hats, fishnets or sheer black hose, and most importantly- heeled shoes!

  10. Don’t be shy! Masks, handcuffs and/or whips can be subtly added to an image to add extra detail and character to your portfolio.

However, most of all please remember VARIETY: there is only so much we can do with three black and/or white sets of underwear. Have a think about versatility when choosing your key items. Flashes of colour in either underwear, jewellery or footwear makes a much more interesting portfolio of imagery (click here to see our own gallery of imagery).
